So did everyone get their tax return in on time?
Usually the whole system falls over about now and they declare a week's extension but actually the adverts they've been doing are very good, as Moira Stuart tells you to do it now so you can have a nice weekend! _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec

Yeah I did Caroline, but it breaks my heart having to hand over that amount of cash to the government. But there you go. _________________ Marj Beattie

I have and hopefully it was my last tax return now that I've closed the business.
I did make it harder than I needed to by misreading my P60 and adding "Previous Employment" and "Total for Year" causing a tax bill of more than three times my profit but I realised my error the same day and was able to correct it and resubmit it to get a much smaller tax bill to pay, which has also been done. _________________ Regards

Hi my tax return did not get filed in time although not through a fault of my mine.
I tried to file on Friday night and they couldn't recognise my password not sure why as it is the same one I have had since I first become self employed.
I then requested a new password and a glitch on the system meant they couldn't find me. I rang them on Saturday and got that resolved. They said to request another password and it should be through within 6 hours. By Sunday morning still no password, so I called them at 8am, this time to be told they had a fault their end and somebody from Techinical Support would contact me and gave me a reference however if I had not heard back within a few hours to chase. At 12.30pm still no reply so called again, was told to request a new password again and it would be there immedialtey - you guessed it - I did this and still no password so I called back at 2.30pm I was told to wait until Technical Support rang.
Technical Support finally rang at 7pm (an hour before they closed) and asked me to add 5 different email addresses to my safe senders list - I did explain that I do not have a spam filter so the problem could not be at my end but did this anyway. If this didn't work I was to request again and it could take up to 4 hours to recieve (11pm).
Well the password never arrived and today they have said they will post me a new one but will take between 2-7 days to arrive. I have called my local tax office and they put all this on my notes.
Should I recieve a fine I am to write to appeal and it will be taken off.
Lesson learned - don't leave your tax return to the last minute or forget your password. _________________ Charlotte Burford

I'm surprised the site was still up - it usually topples some time on 29th and doesn't come back online till 1st Feb... at which point they extend the deadline.
It would be very unfair if you do get fined Char - it's annoying though because you really shouldn't have to waste time appealing when their systems aren't robust enough to cope with the influx of returns! _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec

I know the worst bit is I was just under the tax threshold so didn't have to pay any tax so to get a £100 fine would just be so unfair.
Oh well - will be filing in May/June this year lol _________________ Charlotte Burford

Ah yes, I make that resolution every year too - still haven't managed to avoid the accountant's "lazy buggers" fee every single year for the last 5 years!!! (They charge extra if you haven't submitted your accounts by 1st October - which is fair enough!!) _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec

I got mine off last Tuesday, so I was very pleased with myself, as it was my first one. As a result, I had a nice weekend! _________________ Bernadette Jones Secretary Services |

My financial year runs 1st Jan to 31st Dec, so when the piece of paper arrives from HRMC in April reminding me that I should be doing my tax return, I just send off a back-up of my accounts prog to my friend who pops it into her Tax Calc prog, and LO.... one tax return which Tax Calc will file on line for me. And that's it over and done with.
The tax returns I file for clients I always try to do well before December, but unfortunately I'm largely dependent upon the client... _________________ Carole Meyrick
