Hi Guys,
What would you do if your child had lead poisoning? Take them to doctors? Have them hospitalized?
What if your child had been poisoned by lead because the land you lived on was contaminated? Move house? Speak to your local council?
What if none of these options were open to you?
Where you aware that when our brave British soldiers entered Kosovo to protect the ethnic Albanian people there we were all very proud. Unfortunately the Kosovan Albanians thought the Roma had collaborated with their Serbs enemies and began persecuting them. The UN moved the Roma Families that hadn't fled the province to temporary refugee camps in the North of Kosovo in a Serb, and therefore safer, enclave. This was a temporary move and the camps were built on contaminated land next to the slag heaps of the old lead mining site.
10 years on they are still there! Forgotten by the whole of Europe and unable to return to their former homes or villages if they're still standing, due to their real fear of intimidation and death.
The situation on the camps is appalling. There aren't proper hygiene facilities, There's no access to services, education or medical treatment.
The children on these camps have so much lead in their little bodies that medical equipment can't measure it properly. They have brain damage and many die before the age of 5.The woman are carrying out their own abortions to stop giving birth to ill children that will suffer heart attacks whilst still toddlers.
I have set up a facebook group to try and raise awareness of this issue which can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/yl2hzrr
and there is a petition to Number 10 at: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/romachildren/
It would be much appreciated if you could sign the petition and join the group, also please tell your friends and families or mention the plight of these poor people in your blogs.
I have joined up with several other women who are concerned about this situation and we have started the long road of preparing to lobby parliments in different countries. We have already made a great start with contacts etc and are pushing forward so please rest assured this is not just an inactive facebook group, rather a group of real people who have a real desire to see something done.
Thanks
Now you know what I have been busy doing whilst I haven't been on here lol! _________________ Sara
